Political gamesmanship
The US. and Volodymyr Zelensky are playing games with Roman Abramovich, a top-tier Russian Oligarch with billions of dollars in assets. The EU and UK sanctioned him; US treasury secretary Janet Yeltsin prepared sanctions, but National Security Advisor jake Sullivan told her to hold off. Supposedly Zelensky didn’t want the US to impose sanctions because Abramovich was helping negotiate a peace treaty with Russia. This charade protects an oligarch’s assets while Zelensky chastises French companies that continue to do business in Russia. Biden said he was going after the assets of Russian Oligarchs, their relatives, girlfriends, wives, sons, daughters, etc., etc., …… but he made an exception for Abramovich. Why was his name not on the first list of sanctioned Oligarchs? Why have they waited so long to sanction him? Putin is killing women and children in Ukraine; what kind of political gamesmanship justifies Putin’s atrocities?
