Philosophy
Republicans believe in low taxes and high growth, including huge deficits and debt. So, they must pretend to cut the deficit even though it is growing; and to do that take away Medicaid benefits, including food stamps for the poor. Some people might think this is cruel and inhumane but the Republican Party has never been known for its humanity; they truly believe people should fend for themselves and the government do the least amount possible to help them while feasting themselves on government largest; you know, subsidies for the rich.
