Yesterday, January 6, 2022, the Wall Street Journal editorial board wrote an op-ed that said last year’s demonstration on the steps of the capital was a riot and not an insurrection and the media should stop calling it that. Does it really matter what you call it? A violent mob whose purpose is to stop the peaceful transfer of power. Is that a riot or an insurrection? How does Webster’s dictionary define insurrection: an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government? What do you think? Was this violent revolt against the government a riot or an insurrection? Websters definition of riot: A violent public disorder. I don’t know, I think it was more than a public disorder, don’t you? I mean they did have a hangman’s noose out there with Vice President’s Mike Pence’s name on it. This was not random violence; this was violence with a purpose-to stop the peaceful transfer of power from one president to another. So, I lean on the side of calling it an insurrection, not a riot. But what you call it does not matter. What matters is what you do with it.
